According to Kass in the Tribune and some of JJJ's constituents he is "toast".

I like the idea of Maria Pappas running. She did a lot to cut costs and streamline the departments she's run. She also ticked off some of the "machine" politicians by doing this. Forest Claypool, if he is not elected Cook Co. Board president.

why do you think Claypool isn't machine? I'll certainly grant you he's hella more competent and less crooked than the average Machine drek, but he moved his up thanks to Daley, no? He was essentially the "Old Ron Huberman" for the Park District if I remember correctly - which of course I may not.

So,Daley has announced he is making no endorsements for mayor and he has no replacement in mind? Any one actually believe this? Or do you predict that next year will bring another rigged, election, followed by an anouncement of which hand picked heir "won" Daley's seat?

Do you guys think the new mayor, no matter who it is, will get rid of Jody Weis? If its Rahm, I already know he's out the door. But anyone else?

I don't think it matters.

Jody Weis isn't really the problem, it's being 1,000 - 2,000 beat cops short that's the problem. If he had the extra foot power so these guys could do their jobs I'm pretty sure he'd be getting a lot less flack.

Whether it's fair or not, Weis is part of the problem since he has clearly lost the confidence of the rank and file. I presume they're smart enough to understand that being down on manpower predates his tenure and isn't something he can do anything about, so I also presume the morale issues stem from something specific to Weis, such as his management style and/or his policing strategies. At the risk of sounding cynical, one of the issues the rank and file seems to have with Weis is that he's more than willing to can officers who have no business being on the force instead of instinctively leaping to their defense no matter how indefensible their actions may have been. For that reason alone I'll be at least a little sad to see him go. It seems at times that this force could use a serious purging, and I'd rather we had a superintendent willing to recognize that instead of saying "nope, we have no problem here."
