I am a college student who recently signed up to volunteer at the Morton Elementary School on N Troy St. I believe this is somewhere between EGP and Humboldt Park. Now, being a Chicago native, I am well aware that these neighborhoods are fairly dangerous. My question is whether or not it would be safe for me to travel to and from Morton School once a week via public transportation? I would be taking the Metra or the El to the kedzie stop, then walking. This would be between the hours of 3 and 6 pm. Let me know if this is a good idea or if by doing this, I am asking to be shot or mugged.

6 p.m. is just about pitch black in the winter months. I woudn't want to be walking around there at night. Is driving not an option?

Yeah, it'd be kind of dangerous.

Especially if you're white.

You might be okay taking metra but you may be the only one getting off at the kedzie stop. Where are you coming from?

I take the green line sometimes and would advise against getting off at the kedzie stop as it is mostly riff raff and your walk will be longer.

Metra may be close enough to be okay but still a horrible area in which you should be careful.

Don't do it. My son's friends were foolish and lived there and they were robbed at gunpoint after being dragged into an alley. Their house was broke into and robbed. Don't go to EGP no way, never, stay away.

^^A lot of your son's friends seem to get beat up and robbed. I recall you saying the same thing happened by the Starbucks in Logan Square.
