I'm just saying, if you cry baby about everything and unfavorably compare everything to NYC, Chicago will eat you alive.

Ten people have bothered to respond to your post and all you give them is a bunch of cr*p. It is the typical NY arrogance that turns off Midwesterers.

well, there you go. you have two options: stay in NYC and enjoy getting a brief head start on being able to watch some obscure indie flicks, or move to Chicago and have the options of seeing the same obscure indie flicks a few days/weeks later but spend much, much less on rent. gotta get your priorities straight here.

Chicago is a great city if you come in here w/ an open mind and not constantly try to compare everything to NYC. doing so will disappoint you and PO the natives here

Case in point are major musicals and plays that eventually go to Broadway. Many of them are tested out and have the kinks worked out here before going to N.Y. If they don't make it here, chances are they will not in N.Y. The producers won't even bother most of the time to bring a show to N.Y. if it does not make it here. Of course, there are shows that are not planned to move to N.Y. at all that are only staged here.

Well then, I guess you can either be grateful that you can afford to live in what is still a world-class city that offers more variety of indie films (and practically everything else for that matter) than 97% of the country, or you can complain that Chicago isn't part of the other 3%. Which one you choose could well define what kind of experience you will have while you're here. My advice is to make the best of it.
