Case in point are major musicals and plays that eventually go to Broadway. Many of them are tested out and have the kinks worked out here before going to N.Y. Well then, I guess you can either be grateful that you can afford to live in what is still a world-class city that offers more variety of indie films (and practically everything else for that matter) than 97% of the country, or you can complain that Chicago isn't part of the other 3%. Which one you choose could well define what kind of experience you will have while you're here. My advice is to make the best of it.
