Lived in glenview and now champaign. But that is hardly relevant. He's born in Chicago, always lived in Chicago, served as a rep for Illinois in Washington, and now worked with Obama. He's even a democrat. By what definition is he NOT a Chicagoan?

Does the Supreme Court have enough credibility for you?
Because they disagree with your opinion on the issue of Rahm's residency.

The "real" Chicagoan issue and whether he has always lived in Chicago has nothing to do with the Illinois Supreme Court.

The poster stated Rahm is a "real" Chicagoan and that he has lived in Chicago his whole life. It is easily proven that Rahm has NOT lived in Chicago his whole life. That latter question is NOT up for debate.

"When the family lived in Chicago, Emanuel attended Anshe Emet Day School, now called Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, a Conservative Jewish day school.[12] After his family moved to Wilmette, he attended public schools: Romona School, Locust Junior High School, and New Trier West High School.[1][13]"

"He graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1981 with a B.A. in Liberal Arts, and went on to receive an M.A. in Speech and Communication from Northwestern University in 1985."

Rahm Emanuel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In addition, as far I know, he did not move back to Chicago until around 1999, after growing up in Wilmette, and living in New York as well as Evanston (for 8 years of college) since he was a young kid. The man is a product of the wealthy North Shore elite. Nobody has any business calling him a "real" Chicagoan.

Whether he is a "real" Chicagoan depends on personal opinion and I stated mine. You have your opinion and so does the person I responded to.

My Moderator cut: not allowed argument is that the Illinois Supreme Court disagrees with your OPINION regarding Rahm's eligibility to be on the ballot, which is the "topic" of this thread.

Yes, yes, we all understand that you don't think he's a "real" Chicagoan because he's a bourgeoisie north shore suburbanite and *gasp* he hasn't lived here his whole entire life.

I can be just as dismissive of your opinion as you are of everyone else's.

In the higher courts opinion to stay the lower court's decision, it seems the lower court threw out 150 years of IL law based on Smith (1868 nearly identical case) and applied its own flawed reasoning to exclude the candidate.

It looks likee the lower court concerned itself with "residency" and "resided in" and missed/ignored Smith - a lesson it should not soon forget.

Does it really make any difference how Chicago he is? I thought Byrne, Washington and Daley were 'real' Chicago. You've had a white mayor, a black mayor and a dynasty. How did they help "real" Chicago residents? Maybe someone who is not a real Chicagoan can sort through the chaos to bring positive change for all?

I can't help but wonder what Mike Royko would say?
