I always wondered what that giant beautiful roman mansion looking structure was at the top of the Hilton Hotel on Michigan Avenue (you probably haven't noticed it - look at the top of it from Columbus Drive). I asked a bellman at the hotel one day and they said that in Home Alone 2 (Lost in New York), the suite where family is reunited at the end of the movie, supposedly overlooking New York's ‘Central Park’, is the Conrad Hilton Suite of the Chicago Hilton and Towers. (This info also came from the website link above). Thought that was interesting. I hear it's $5,000/night. Three bedrooms, a grand salon, a library, a kitchen, and a dining room large enough to seat 14.
Nice link, thanks that is a keeper

well, since this has been revived, anybody watch Perception w/Eric McCormack? it takes place in Chicago and it brought up a few questions..

the school where the hero teaches is called CLMU (Chicago Lake Michigan Univ) which i don't believe actually exists. but does anybody know the real school where the outside scenes are shot?
the black office building between Marina and Trump is implied to be an FBI office in the show. is there really an FBI office there?

If you have a screen grab of CLMU, that might help identify it, but a lot of campus filming is done at USC, where they're used to dealing with it. Can you actually see the lake?

The FBI never had an office in 330 North Wabash (IBM Plaza), though for many years they were in the Federal Center at Dearborn & Jackson, which looks very similar.

The building between Marina and Trump is the old IBM Building. It was designed by Mies Van der Rohe who designed the cluster of similar-looking federal office buildings centered around Jackson and Dearborn, including the well-known Dirksen Federal Building. So the IBM Building makes a convenient stand-in for a federal office building even though it's not. That said, the FBI's Chicago building isn't located downtown but in the Tri-Taylor/Medical District area, somewhere on Roosevelt just east of Western.

I believe the external campus shots are filmed at University of Toronto.
