Hi all,

Please excuse my slightly melodramatic post title. I'm hoping to come to your wonderful city for around six weeks this summer to train at the iO theater. I'm in the UK right now, and have never been to Chicago before.

What I really need to know more than anything is how to get the best accommodation for not very much money; so, I imagine I'll need somewhere to stay, ideally, between the Waveland Avenue Golf Course, St Ben's, Roscoe and De Paul (please accept my apologies if I've got this all wrong, but am working by Googlemaps alone). If I've inadvertently chosen the most expensive part of town, it'd be good to know other places I could stay with good transport links.

I don't have much money so am trying to do this the cheapest way possible. Any ideas would be VERY welcome. Ideally I'd be looking for an affordable studio/houseshare, though I'm a dance and Pilates teacher by trade, and a professional writer and editor for many UK and international magazines and newspapers (I know it sounds like a lie – "I'm a baker and an astronaut..." but it's true), so could swap accommodation for some kind of professional tuition (if you need the copy for a website or your business written, or a press release, or want some Pilates instruction, or you know someone who might, that kind of thing).

If you'd like more information on me professionally, do shout and I'll send you something. As a brief personal resumé, I'm in my early 30s, tidy, kind, very nice to live with, and have been known to be a bit of a giggle every now and again...

Oh my God! You've made it all the way to the end of this post: thanks so much for reading. And thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.

Thanks again, and kindest regards,

Nicola

Maybe you could work something out with one of these people Airbnb Search You might also be able to find something around DePaul, I would think there would be students looking for someone to sublet their place for the summer. I also found this: http://www.secondcity.com/pdf/CHITC_...ng_Options.pdf Either the hostel or University Center would be your best bets. This: International House: Short-Term Guest Accommodations is not all that close, but there is public transportation that would get you there.

Anything in a decent area is going to set you back a few dollars. One thing you might do is check Craigslist for private owners that are looking to rent out a condo they cannot sell right now. Some of them rent for a week or a month with no lease. Be careful though and do not send anybody any advance money. There are lots of scammers in Chicago who make a good living preying on people like you.

Your visa probably prevents you from working, even if it is not for cash, so you may want to rethink posting your intent to do so online.

Hey all,

This is late thanks, and I apologise. I really thought I'd got back to you sooner. Please forgive me: I'm so grateful for your help, and things are more than just a little crazy at this end.

Again, huge thanks for all your ideas. Knitgirl: you diamond! I'm checking out those links as we speak. And Tabak, I really appreciate your heads-up on that too. What a good idea. I'll be taking that one on a bit further with connecting with estate agents directly. Great idea.

Once again, huge thanks, and any other ideas would be very welcome too... I've recently signed up to couchsurfing.com and have strangers coming to stay all next month in an effort to build a profile there! Unconventional, but worth a go, eh?

Thanks once more for all your help, and very kindest regards,

Nicola

Hi again,

Sorry for delay. Hey tonythetuna! Yep, it's July and August (thanks knitgirl!), but it won't be both full months. My course at iO runs from 11 July to 11 August. It's be good to arrive around Friday 8th (ish) to get ready, and would like to be there for at least a few days after the course ends. If you hear of anything, I'd be so grateful if you gave me a shout.

Kindest again all,

Nic
