I just found out about Shameless and rented season one on dvd. I was unimpressed with the first episode (which is all I've seen so far) but am going to keep watching to see if I like it more with subsequent episodes. I really love William H Macy, he doesn't pick bad projects to work in.

The show isn't a documentary, so of course there are certain things that will be fudged. Anyway, I've been following the show and am caught up on all episodes save for last nights. The plots certainly have entertainment value. I've never pegged Emmy Rossum (Phantom of the Opera, Day After Tomorrow) as the type to bare her chest on screen though... nor Steve Howey (Reba) to go full frontal... Hah.

The first few episodes aren't that great. From about the fourth on they come together a lot better, in my opinion. The second season has been better, too, although I also notice they film a lot more exteriors in L.A. this season, which annoys me.

I started watching the Brit version of Shameless first season, second episode and was quickly smitten. Then came the US version. At first I felt betrayed. Sold Out! The lack of Cleverness in the writing was and still is the weak link in the US version. Oh, those Brits. Almost imposible to understand but that whole notion of Shakesperian wit abounds. The writers have not missed the top-of-mind value of family first and I think that alone makes the show valueable. But, wit? For gid aboud it

I know one other one! But someone mentioned the el going overhead and that doesn't make sense for Back of the Yards. Never seen the show, is it supposed to be a "reality" bit?

No, it's a scripted drama / dark comedy. It's set in Canaryville, but filmed in South Lawndale and California.

TV shows are often not filmed in the same place the story is set. Star Trek wasn't filmed in outer space, either.
