I don't understand the OP's rant at all. I lived in NYC as well, and find the people of Chicago to be much friendlier and easygoing. I guess I'm his polar opposite because I've been really happy ever since I got the chance to move here. People have been nothing but kind to me and have went out of their way to make me feel welcome here. I hope this person gets the help they need. There's an old saying 'you can run from your problems but they'll always find you'. There's good and bad no matter where you go. I, for one, think there's far more good than bad here and I feel fortunate to call Chicago my home. A city of this size has so much diversity, so many types of people from all walks of life. If you can't find people to hang out with maybe the answer is to take a good look in the mirror. Nobody likes a Debbie Downer!

The city of Chicago is 200,000 fewer people than it was in 2000. And 900,000 fewer people than it was in 1950.

Now if you are talking about downtown Chicago aquiring more high rises that can potentially be targets for terrorists, then yes there is that possibilty.

I'm not going to argue that Chicago is the greatest city in the world. To me, I rather live in LA, San Fran or San Diego. In those cities, you're probably going to find the same thing. I know in LA you will. It seems like the issue is yourself. I'm not trying to attack you, but it sounds like you've had your heartbroken. You loved someone who didn't love you back and now you hate this city for it. Just remember down the line, what city taught you how to deal with a broken heart man.

OP: As other posters have said, you may find that a change of venue won't change the problems you are having. As easy as it is to make Chicago the scapegoat, it probably isn't very helpful. If everyone in Chicago felt the same way you do, there wouldn't be 3 million people there. Another thing you should keep in mind is that there are malicious, shallow, and fake people everywhere. Everywhere.

So you should really really think about this question: is it really Chicago, or is it how you are approaching the situations that is ultimately causing you pain?

If it really is Chicago, then maybe a move is best for you. Either way, I hope that you can ultimately find happiness no matter where you end up.
