Me? Drives me nuts. My kids play in the grass out front. We have a permanent swing out there. Still, the owners waltz right up and let the dogs poop and ****.

I work pretty hard to keep the burn marks off our lawn. I clean up after crappy neighbors that just open their doors and send their dogs out. I have seen them in our fenced garden, too.

So, a bullhorn? Airhorn? Doggy Metamucil? Pepper or coffee spread on the repeat spots? Sit there with my water canon-hose? What would you do?

And if you say to chill, you come over and step in some crap when you are horseing around with your kids. It is soft and gooey and stinky.

Personally, I'd put a sign up reminding passerbys to clean up after their dogs. Owners allowing dogs to go within the gate of your yard is inexcusable, as is not picking up poop. Seriously, how hard is it to carry a plastic bag with you?

Pee is a different thing. I can understand your frustration with the burn marks they can leave, but to me its just part of the territory of living in a city and a dogs gotta go sometimes. I usually carry a water bottle with me to dilute things after ours goes. The majority of the time I use it is when accidents happen on a sidewalk to at least rinse it away a bit.

I remember seeing a thread like this in the pet forums. Carrying around bags seems like a hassle, but for poop I probably would pick it up, although I have seen pet owners leave it in various yards, including mine. Occasional poop isn't the biggest deal. The rain can usually do a good job of cleaning that up. Pee is even a smaller deal in my book. When I have a dog, I'm not going to forbid him to pee on the edge of someone's yard. That would be pretty ridiculous.

I do not allow my dog to relieve himself in anyone's yard. Period. I only allow him to relieve himself on the easement between the sidewalk and the street (which is not private property) and then, in the case of solid waste, I clean it up. I think it's inexcusable to let your dog poop in public and not clean it up. I have been known to hand plastic bags to people who try to get away with such misbehavior.
I have no issues with dogs relieving themselves in my yard because I keep my gate locked. It keeps the religious nuts, salesmen, and rude dog owners away.

Carrying bags is not a hassle at all. It's not like they're heavy or bulky, or even difficult to obtain. It's no fun picking up dog crap, but seriously, if it's your dog, its your problem, not someone else's.

This is why people in apartments with no yard access should not have dogs.

What ever you do
Do not over react like the guy last year in the sburbs
He went postal and actually killed a guy for
walking on his grass.

I liked the sign in the yard idea , seems that would get your point across just fine

There are MANY pet owners that are HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE and have no I'll feeling about "let Fido do what comes naturally".

I suspect that is what the OP is dealing with. I have found that on small front yards a good hose is a wonderful thing -- leave it going on a sprinkler and the careless dog walkers won't let Fido or themselves get soaked. As a bonus the water will dissolve most wait quickly. Of course that won,t allow kids swing to be used as much, but I would gladly put that in back yard to avoid issues with thoughtless people...
