We had the cows, we had that great big eyeball on State. Look, this is art.

The statue is of a cultural icon. Anyone who has seen the movie knows that the guy never beds Marilyn and that her art picture in the sand features her in a swimsuit, not nude.

If the post-adolescents want panty pictures, fine with me. I guess they could cross the street for statues of Bob Newhart and Jack Brickhouse, huh?

Only a temporary statue!?
wow that's good to hear. Hopefully it gets moved to Los Angles, where it will make the most sense. It doesn't make any sense here.

well, the bean doesn't make any sense, but as this is about statues of real persons. When someone sees a monument to an individual, I would wager to say they think of a few questions while they look at it.

1. Who is this person?
2. Why is he immortalized in statue form?
3. What makes him or her special?
4. Is he connected in someway to the town or city I am in?
5. What did they do?
6. Are they still alive or dead? most likely dead.

its art. it can be anywhere. it doesn't have to be in manhattan where the seven year itch was filmed (not sure why you think LA has more to do with the film than chicago). i'm not getting your point. most people know why monroe was immortalized/what she did, etc...
