Some additional butchers to check out are:

Peoria Packing
1300 W Lake St
If you want ANYTHING pig related, this is the place to go.

Chicago Meat Market
3021 N Cicero Ave
A nice selection of everything, at decent prices. They have a lot of butchers on staff and whole carcasses, so you can get things cut however you'd like.

Ciales Live Poultry
2141 W Armitage
I walk by this place on the way home from work everyday and buy a chicken or duck from them about once a week. Nothing better than walking home with a still warm bird!

Sahar Market II
4829 N Kedzie Avenue
This area is full of great Middle Eastern places, and this is one of my favorites. Great prices/selection on whole goats and every sheep part you may want (and many you wouldn't want too).

They just opened last month, I haven't been yet, but I've heard some good things about it.

Few good local grocery stores southwest:
Walt's/Tinley, Mokena, So. Holland-good meats, deli.
Randy's Market/Orland-same and is next to the Orland Bakery-try the bacon buns!
Berkots/Mokena-great meats and deli. Awesome broasted chicken.
Brookhaven Market-a gem of a place in Mokena. Not aesthetically pleasing, but has the greatest selection of ethnic foods southwest-Greek, Italian, Mexican, Polish. The homemade Giardinara in the deli is to die for.
Rubino's-Tinley Park. Just go there.

I was reading the Sun-Times online and came across an article on Hagen's Fish Market, a place I have known about since I was a kid.

This place (since 1946) smokes fish the old fashioned way. They also have fresh shrimp and other seafoods. Check it out sometime if you like and help keep a local place alive.

Hagen's Fish Market
5635 W. Montrose
Chicago, IL 60634-1881

Inside Hagen's Fish Market, the city's last smokehouse :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Lifestyles (http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/1986219,hagens-fish-market-011310.article - broken link)

While reading the comments about the story I saw a comment by jordanl.

"Last wood smokehouse in Chicago? Not quite. Have you heard of Calumet Fisheries on 95th? They've been running a wood smokehouse in Chicago for over 60 years..."

They are at:

Calumet Fisheries
3259 E. 95th St
Chicago, IL 60617

Check it out as well!

Zalesky and Horvath (Z&H), 47th st. just west of Woodlawn ave in Kenwood. A second branch will open on 57th st. in a few months (next door to the Medici). This is an excellent locally run, neighborhood speciality grocery store, cafe, and deli. Highly recommended if you're down in the Hyde Park area.

How did I forget to mention Gene's Sausage Shop by Belmont and Laramie (as well as now in Lincoln Square-4750 N Lincoln Ave in the Old Meyer's space) and Lincoln Quality Meat Market down the street?
