Hi my roommate and I just graduated and got job offers at Chicago. We rented a 2 br apartment at w dakin st right by the CTA Sheridan stop. I thought lakeview is generally a safe area, but still want to get some ideas from who are familiar with this area. Any also suggestions about any restaurants, bars, or fun places near by. Thanks!

Yes. That area has really gentrified over the past 10 years. I can't imagine you will have a problem. Just be alert at night as isolated incidents can happen anywhere.

Lakeview has so many wonderful restaurants. My favorite are up and down Broadway between Addison and Diversey Pkwy. Also, a great assortment on N Southport on both sides of Addison.

Congratulations on your jobs and move.

It's a great area. You'll love it there. Seriously, there are almost zero safety concerns I can think of other than basic keeping your wits about you; and that's anywhere.

Great neighborhood for the pasts 20+ years, at least. Excellent public transportation. Close to Wrigley. Not close to supermarkets, though.

That's not true.

The next stop - Wilson has a huge Target right off the stop at Sunnyside and Broadway. Prime location for access to a supermarket.

I first moved to the area near Dakin in the early-1970s. It was a bit rough, then. Puerto Rican's gangs, etc. By the beginning of the 1980s it had begun the change for the better.

The Wilson/Sheridan/Broadway area is not a place I'd locate myself. To live, that is. It's been a troubled area for generations and all the promises to make it better haven't yet been successful.

But nobody said anything about this person living near Wilson. Going to Target is not going to be a dangerous adventure.

A lot of females are actually afraid of the Wilson stop and the area around Broadway and Wilson, especially at night.

I have never had a problem in that area.
