I did one for Heavy Rail and LRT..as well. I did not factor in the Freight network which would make the Midwestern network 70% larger then even the Northeastern network. I just did the Passenger lines current and future planned lines. In California there lines are long ,in the Northeast there short but some towns and cities have 3 or 5 lines running through them. The Current and Future network calls for restoring most of the lines that were ended back in the 70s which will mean we will have lines ontop of lines. Branches will become full lines and the network will become huge. For the Midwest most of the plans call for lines no longer then 85Mi , with most lines being 45Mi...I also counted the line extension Projections and Future Electrification proposals.

The Midwest feeds the world. The Ports of St. Louis, Peoria and Chicago all ship by RAIL, air, water or truck. I am quite sure other ports do the same thing. The least expensive transportation will get the most traffic. I do not see commercial rail changing much in Illinois. In fact I see it growng if the time between producer and buyer improves as the size of family farms increase.

I wonder if the people who plan this also plan for cattle on the tracks because it does happen from time to time and how long it takes to stop a train traveling 125mph? Is the super train going to stop every 20-30 miles for passengers? I don't see where the Chicago to St. Louis ride will be much faster with the frequent passenger stops the first 200 miles out of Chicago.

How did New Brunswick (NB) come to be included in the American Midwest? If it is a typo I can fix it.

You do realize that regional Rail is commuter rail.....not Intercity rail which was on the previous post.... With the Newer trains it takes a half mile to stop a train going 125mph. Alot of Europe is Rural , some of the HSR run through the Desert....no problems.

That's good news, but we're still the ones who made him a gazillionaire. We are as guilty as Dr. Frankenstein was.
