The block is 1530 N Orleans St. (right at the intersection of North Ave. and Orleans St.). I looked at the crime stats on the Everyblock Chicago website and there are very few reported crimes in this immediate area (after looking at crime reports from the last few months). However, I'm a little concerned about the area just southwest of there (where Cabrini Green used to be). I'm still sort of new to Chicago and just wondering if I should even be worried about possibly living on the block I mentioned? Obviously, living in the city means exercising extra common sense, safety precautions, etc. etc. no matter where you are ... but how would this area compare to Lincoln Park or Lakeview in terms of safety?

It is better than it used to be and is probably ok now. The area around the Sedgwick Brown line stop has historically been pretty iffy due to housing projects close by, but it has changed the last several years due to some limited rehabbing/gentrification going on south of North and west of Wells.

It's fine. There are still a couple units left in Cabrini but they are generally non-issues. Not to mention they are south of Division. I know 3 girls that live at North and Hudson. I wouldn't really sweat it.

With the gentrification that was noted going on South of North andWwest of Wells, do you think the Condos/Townhomes developed in the early 2000s at the intersections of Division and Sedgwick (1200 block) areas are safe?

Yes. A Target is about to be built at Division and Larrabee which will continue the upgrading of the neighborhood.

I live at Cleveland and North Avenue and the area is totally fine. The only area I wouldnt want to walk through at night is over by Sedgwick south of blackhawk where there is still some pretty shady housing, other than that the area is very upscale.

As others have said, it's fine from a safety standpoint. That particular address is likely to be noisy as all getout due to the curve of the "L" there and the station. You'll have station sounds, normal "L" rumbling, and screeching from the steel on steel turns. I wouldn't live there, but only due to the noise, not because of safety concerns.
