I assume you are asking about Dearborn Street, where on Dearborn are you asking about?

Dearborn street is a long street but it's perfectly fine. On the north side it goes through River North, Gold Coast and I think a bit of Old Town. It's safe, etc.

The OP's unconventional life and no desire for children makes then a good candidate to consider places like Oak Park or Forest Park as well. Costs would be lower in Forest Park because of the school situation, but as they won't need that seems like a smart way to stretch their rental dollar.

Yes, but they have expressed the want to be close to work (I assume the Loop or around there). They have also lived on the Upper East Side, for which I think parts of the Gold Coast would be familiar to them in that capacity.

OP: Dearborn is fine. Really, you just want to stay away from living directly on Division Street unless it's East of State State. That area of Division is fine, but West of that you aren't going to live on directly IMO. Give yourself a padding starting at Scott Street or Goethe Street if you go north of Division or Cedar Street (unless it's East of State, then Elm Street is fine too).

Kind of like how some of the more desirable places are near Central Park in NYC, it's like that in Chicago with Lake Michigan. There are a lot of very, very nice condo buildings on the Lake in the Gold Coast, and you CAN find private rentals in these.

Most of the places in River North, Gold Coast, and Streeterville are very safe. Usually if there's non shoplifting related crime it's centered around a train station, and even then it's usually not serious (every once in awhile a pickpocket and what not). Most of the crime in the area is theft related because of all the stores on Michigan Avenue, Rush Street, Oak Street, etc. There's an SRO in an old YMCA building near the Chicago Red Line stop which people find shady, which it is, but I go in and out of this stop everyday and have never been bothered. There is a McDonald's across the street with the same thing. Other than that, Sedgewick Brown Line might be a little eh sometimes too, but nothing major anymore.

Default I

Hi guys,

I am moving soon from Europe to Chicago and I need to find an accommodation place somewhere close to UIC medical district. I am thinking to rent a studio. Can you please help me with some information about some nice and safe neiberhoods close to above mentioned area and price ranges?
Thank you in advance!
