When I visited, I took the Blue Line w/ a backpack and a suitcase from O'Hare all the way down to Monroe and transferred to the Red Line to get to my hotel. No problems whatsoever.

You're talking about the safer half of the Blue Line. The OP is talking about from Jackson to Forest Park which does go through some rugged parts of town, but it is still a safe ride during business hours

That is true. I've taken the Forest Park half of the Blue Line a couple times but I've never found it "intimidating" - probably b/c it runs on the highway median (which I'm not a fan of but that's another discussion).

It's fine. There's a section of that part of the Blue Line does go through an iffy neighborhood, it's true, but in the middle of the workday there will be literally hundreds of other commuters on there with you, many going to Rush University Medical Center and the like.
