Yeah, that one-block stretch of Jackson between Ashland and Lafflin is absolutely spectacular. And, sadly, completely out of place with the rest of the neighborhood these days.

That "wealthy guy" wasn't so wealthy, but he was committed to historic preservation, and multi-talented.

His name was Bill Lavicka, and he owned and lived on the 1500 block. He died a few years ago.

Due largely to Bill's efforts this well-preserved block is a historic landmark.

A former president of the Chicago school board lived in one of the newer townhomes toward the west end of the block.

The neighborhood isnt bad. You have Whitney Young Magnet high school a few blocks east and right next to that is the Chicago Police Department training academy. Its a pretty boring hood though. You'll have to walk to madison street to the north or taylor street to the south for any bars or restaurants. Other than that, it wont be dangerous living around there. Now i'm not sure about the actual hotel itself. You may get attacked by hungry transients.

The place you are subletting looks kind of like a flophouse. Hopefully you've seen pictures of the inside.
I think you mean Western
