Any suggestions on a place that has really good shrimp & grits? I tried Wishbone and thought they were overrated a tad; they had wayyy tooo many mushrooms in theirs, but the 'grits' had more of a gravy texture...

Those sound like they go together like oysters and oatmeal or lobster and cream of wheat. I guess I'm not Southern enough to get it.

My favorite for shrimp and grits is Big Jones. It's a great place in general.

I second this. They are pretty good..but I'm not from the south so I might be stupid about this.

I felt the same way....until I had for the first time.

On a similar note, if anyone know where you can get British style prawns, you will literally be the best person ever. I don't even know if they are available in America, or what they would be called, but in 10 years I've been unable to find any. They're softer (not chewy at all), smaller and sweeter tasting than shrimps. Shrimps (the ones I've had in Florida/NC, anyway) just don't cut it for me.

Are they thick enough in your opinion (ie, not too 'gravy-y' ?)?

It is a "starter" at the decidely upscale Table 52 but it has enough shrimp & spice to be filling.

The Garland Building location of Heaven On Seven is an awfully nice spot to get breakfast or lunch in the Loop and their Shrimp & Cheddar Cheese Grits are probably the heartiest "brunch" entree you can find...

Table 52's shrimp and grits are good too but that's definitely more upscale - like $125 for two people at least.

I think so. My main references are what I've had in NO and what some of my in laws make, and this certainly holds up to those standards. I should note that I've only had their brunch ones, and I think the dinner ones are different, but look very good as well.
