Exactly - I'd also add most of the people posting here don't have the first clue about Chicago or crime in Chicago.

For starters, the vast majority of people who are shot are armed - they are gang members who are expecting someone will try to shoot them at some point and are prepared to shoot back. In most cases it doesn't do them any good. Sometimes the gang members shoot at each other and only manage to hit innocent bystanders.

As Marothisu accurately notes - Chicago is on track to have the lowest homicide rate since the 1960's, I have no idea why people on the other side of the country care - or more importantly why they are so ignorant about homicide rates in Chicago.

Where were your posts when more people were shot in January? Do you honestly think most of these people that are shot are by people who legally purchased their weapons, and do you honestly believe most of these people shot, if they owned weapons, were purchased legally?

Not to worry, Chief McCarthy has everything under control ! Remember that these numbers are down from (pick any year) since he came to town and Emperor Rahm has been mayor. And don't forget the Chicago has strict gun laws, so these types of shootings can't happen here.

That's one horrible attitude to have, when national news reports on the shootings here, they dont say "Englewood" or "Roseland", they say Chicago. Maybe you should volunteer for a youth program in those rough areas

Here's more statistics for 2013. There are 77 official community areas in Chicago

- 32 official community areas have not reported a homicide yet this year, or about 42% of all community areas in Chicago have had 0 homicides this year.

- Only 20 community areas make up for over 75% of the homicides in Chicago this year (and pretty much like this most years). More specifically, 76.3% of this year's homicides have happened in official community areas that only make up 34% of the overall population.

Anyone who brings this up

a) Doesn't know about geography
b) Doesn't know about the gun laws in other states.

Perhaps you need a refresher about how easy it is to go to Indiana and get a gun:
Englewood, Chicago, IL to Hammond, IN - Google Maps

Anatomy of gun sale:

Quote:
When the Killing Crew needed guns, it turned to Indiana.
“Guns are really easy to get in Indiana,” reputed crew member Charles Golden boasted to police after he was caught with two handguns in 2006.
Quote:
In a written statement to police, Golden later admitted he called a friend in Indiana to get the guns. Golden said his friend could “get them pretty easily.”

Only a driver’s license is needed to buy a gun in Indiana, while, in Illinois, a firearm owner’s identification card is required.
Also, gun laws are prosecuted more seriously in Indiana, making Chicago -- where punishment is less certain -- a more desirable place to traffic firearms, a federal source said.

Golden’s friend, who had a criminal record, approached someone with a clean record who bought a 9mm Smith & Wesson and a .45-caliber Glock from a pawn shop in Indiana, officials said.

Then, he rode in the backseat of a car driven by a girlfriend and brought the guns to Golden’s home on the Far South Side, authorities said. The Chicago Sun-Times isn’t identifying the friend because he wasn’t charged.

Blaming Chicago homicide numbers on gun control is a bogus argument. To start with, there are plenty of cities that allow concealed carry and have homicide rates much higher than Chicago's. New Orleans has very lax gun control laws and has a homicide rate three times that of Chicago. Chicago has seen a dramatic drop in homicides over the last 20 years, without changing it's gun laws at all. Concealed carry won't do anything to the crime rates in Chicago (which are currently at their lowest point in decades, and dropping). The one thing that banning concealed carry does is allow police to bring in suspected gang members in when they find a handgun on a person or in a car.

Franky, the most heartbreaking thing I've seen in recent years are the photos the Tribune published of the Italian restaurant proprietor and his wife being held up on Cicero before the murder. The camera still really show off the fear and protective instinct of the victim.

Honestly, this really calls for a public execution. The amont of carte blanche and freedom to terrorize that our city's criminals have are unbelievable.

That was really tragic, and hope they catch the guys who did that. But it wasn't ON Cicero, it was IN Cicero - not Chicago.
