Basically, as unbelievable as it may seem, there are no neighborhood high schools in the Chicago Public Schools system that could honestly be compared to those in any of the desirable towns that border the city. You would do much better renting in a town that is well served by transit options such as Metra or CTA including Evanston or Oak Park. Should you feel compelled to live inside the city if may be acceptable to live in Lincoln Park, though you should know that in addition to swerving the very very very costly neighborhood it has a rather notorious mix of students that do not qualify for the academically challenging options, the International Baccalaureate program at the school is run as a "cadre" and it is unlikely that any mid-year transfers into it are possible...

The second difficulty will be finding a situation that allows you to rent starting in December / January and lease through the end of your stay -- there are probably some larger rental management companies that might charge a premium for a lease that is less than a year, the other option is smaller private landlords, some of which may be OK with a lease that ends in June, which is a traditonally a busy rental month in the region.
