Anyone know? There's a guy on my block and there's a school about 1.5 blocks away, a day care .75 blocks away. Is he allowed to live that close? Anyone know who I should contact?

I'd prefer he'd be forced to live on one of the pumping stations out in the middle of Lake Michigan.

Only problem with that law is that in Chicago living far from a school is near impossible....

Really? "A child sex offender may not live within 500 feet of a school or school property"

8 city blocks in mile, 5280 ft per mile. This requirement is less than a city block, there are thousands of places they could live, but I agree with an earlier poster a pumping station in the middle of the lake is the ideal location.

Not all sex offenders are pedophiles.

Some who are required to register as sex offenders are not necessarily bad people.

Searching near me, there's a guy who has to register for "solicitation of a child" and even on the page about him it says that the victim was 17. And yet in the law that describes what "indecent solicitation of a child" is, it says a child under the age of 17.

I don't know the details of the case, but a) 17 is not under 17, and b) even if it were, it's one year difference. And 16 is WAY different than, say, 6

My point?

Registration, by itself, isn't really grounds for considering the offender an irredeemable monster.
