Starting in the fall I will likely frequently throughout the year make stops there, some transfer periods could hold me there for as long as an four hours.
What are things to do around that area?
How safe is the greyhound station in Chicago?
I've read that random people are often attacked in the street daylight or not. I read worst about the Chicago greyhound station and what all happens inside so I definately wouldn't want to be stuck in that environment for hours.

I would not stay in that station for long periods of time. (Like more than a half hour.) Just about every Greyhound station in any state I have been to is filled with some shady people.

If you work for the company I would not worry too much though.

No I do not work for a company, just a frequent commute.

Yeah I don't think staying in the station for a long period is a good ideal.

I wish I could drive myself.

Or you could take Megabus which is generally cheaper.

I forgot, I will consider the Megabus but I still will have to stop in Chicago then transfer onto a greyhound bus. Doesn't Megabus stop at the bus station or somewhere less safer?

Megabus stops near the Amtrak station I think. It is far better around there. Far less riff raff.

I just notice that Megabus stops at Chicago Union Station
Address: Union Station S Canal St south of Jackson Blvd.

I will began to consider Megabus ( cheaper price) but I may have to transfer to the greyhound in Chicago or my state.

Input on Chicago Union Station and Greyhound Station will be helpful.

The actual location isn't bad at all, it's just because (as has been stated) that you're sitting in the Greyhound station. Not that I'd be terrified or anything.

You're only a 10 minute walk from Union Station and Megabus, and everything I've heard about them is about the opposite of Greyhound. You're also a 5-8 minute walk from the Subway in Chicago, which will zip you into downtown or Mich Ave within 15 minutes.

What have you heard about Union State and Megabus compared to Greyhound?
Thanks for the information

I think I may use Megabus and then transfer onto Amtrack instead of the Greyhound or possibly all three.

Thanks everyone, more input is valued.

Maybe you could better explain what you're worried about. Is it being bored? Being panhandled? Being hungry? Being cold? Or being mugged?

Union Station is a big, busy train station, safe at all hours. It has a food court. Megabus technically loads on the sidewalk a block south of Union Station, but Megabus passengers sometimes sit in the Great Hall or food court at Union Station.

The Greyhound Station is a typical big-city bus station, but there's not a lot around it. The folks waiting for buses or outside for passengers may not have a lot in common with you, but they're generally not going to attack you. It's only about 700 feet to the subway station if you want to go elsewhere.
