If you actually take the time to get witnesses and file a police report I hear that certain claims are not contested by the City's law department, typically those involving a single expensive tire / wheel or obvious suspension damage to a newer car.

Folks looking to get a whole new set of wheels are likely to find the city denying the claim and going to court against the city is probably not time efficient for most people...

You can start with this form -- http://www.cityofchicago.org/dam/cit...ERTYDAMAGE.pdf

It helps to have the police repot, witness info, itemized insurance claim and all supporting documentation...

It used to be that in order to be reimbursed by the city, that you had to inform the city of the deficiency before the event causing the damage. In other words if the city doesn't know about it you didn't get paid. Good luck with that! We ate a transmission because of some construction that left a gaping hole on Cicero Ave. many years ago. Because they didn't know it, they wouldn't pay and just because all of the roads are falling apart there, probably isn't going to make a difference. I highly doubt things have changed for the better. I did not see anything in that report that mentioned how many claims have been submitted vs. how many have been paid.
