A few of my friends and I are planning to go into Chicago on the weekend. My question is; are there any good 18+ bars/ dance clubs in Chicago or the suburbs surrounding it? Im from NYC so Im not familiar with Chicago or IL. Much Appreciated -Mike

Hi Mike,

Most of the clubs that I know of are 21+

Are you looking for specifically 18-21? Live bands will have 18+ or all ages shows, but I don't recall specifically seeing 18+ clubs, since I'm over 21, I might not pay that close attention.

I don't think I've ever seen a bar/club that is 18+. What cities still have that with alcohol being served? I know Iowa City used to have it (or like 19+), but they are 21+ now. The best shot of doing that is probably an electronica show at music venue and not a club. Every club here is 21+ I am pretty sure.

I think Medusa's (Did I just date myself there?) was 16+ or 18+, and the owner of that place moved his operation to Elgin.

Medusa - Elgin, IL | Yelp

It's a pretty cool setup there, multiple floors and I've gone there specifically for certain DJ's not popular enough to make it downtown.

The OP, if he has car access, may need to look to other suburban, or even Champaign-Urbana for non 21+ entry. I don't know if it's changed, but Champaign bars were still 19+, and I doubt that will have changed. There are a few nightclubs there too, but nothing on the scale of Medusa.

There is one in Naperville, for ages 16-23.

Medusa is in Elgin now?!

Man, that used to be the spot back in the day!!! I used to love that place. Partied there when I was a teen. They spun some of the best music there, especially Industrial and EBM. I wonder what kind of music they play there now?

When I was 18, I did go to one in Chicago, but that was a while back so I have no clue what it was called or where in the city it was aside from that it was the North Side.

Google 18 and up dance clubs and Yelp has some suggestions. Not sure if they pan out.

Hahaha.

Yes, I wonder if we weren't there at the same time!

I went there for an industrial/EBM night a couple years ago, the DJ was someone I knew from Champaign.

They do lots of electronic music, industrial/EBM is probably less frequent there than in the good old days, no doubt they have a variety of the different styles/genres depending on night and DJ.

If the night sucks too bad, you can always pop by the casino too, if you are into such things. Though for that sort of activity, $5 tables are pretty rare on a weekend night, you won't find me at a high-roller table ($25). LOL

When I used to party in Chicago, it was all about house. Medusa would spin house some nights, but it was there that I was introduced to industrial and EBM in a club setting and I just fell in love with it! The genres are such a great blend of punk and EDM--both of which I enjoy. It's still all about house when I go out in Chicago while visiting but it's great to know Medusa is still around. It sucks that it's been moved to the burbs though.

I don't know. I'd probably be too old for Medusa now but the music I listened to in my younger years is still the exact same kind of music I listen to today. I still like to go out to dance and when I do, I want dance to house, industrial or EBM. The younger generation won't appreciate EBM, so I'm sure they don't play it much there these days, though that is what made Medusa great!

A lot of the EDM that's out now I don't care for. I don't like trance, and that progressive house stuff (a la DJ Tiesto) is just pure garbage. I like dubstep but you can't really dance to it. Besides, once you've heard one dubstep song, you've heard them all.

I've never gambled before. Still I'd love to check it out now just for nostalgia's sake.
