You've dug-up an old story, which I think has been discussed previously here on this forum. That being said: the polling information for Illinois seemed to have focused on the attitude of residents in two specific areas: political corruption and the state's financial situation. Ask the questions differently, I think the responses will be different. I think it would be foolish to base a decision to live/not live in Illinois based on one poll such as this. The article which was linked in the OP has a political slant which is negative, anyway. I do think people who are unhappy where they live should move elsewhere, just like I think that people who are unhappy with their jobs should quit and find something else to do ... when that's possible. Less stress and more happyness are good things to work towards.

I'm content in Chicago. Visited many major cities and they still don't offer what Chicago has. Yeah we may have high prices on many things, but I love living here. Don't like it. Move! People would rather complain than actually do physical work, like pick up and move.

I can think of worse -

anywhere in the Middle East where war is happening, and/or people are killed for thier religion (usually christians);
India - where people are so poor that they live in the dirt streets and have no proper sewarage;
North Pole - or anywhere that freezing
the Desert - anywhere it is 120 degrees in the shade in winter.
any place where they believe women should be trafficked on a regular basis. (though chicago has some of that actually)

so chicago wins over that.

There are definitely better states than IL. It has some of the most crooked politicians out there, is solidly democratic with almost no opposition, and has some of the highest taxes around.

Thank you! When I used to live closer to the Dan Ryan that's all I would see in the morning commute. Indiana may be cheaper to live, but cheaper wages usually come into play. They should be lucky we let them enter the state.
