Any thoughts on this? Would this look okay in the skyline? Does anyone think it will be completed? Personally, I think it'd be cool to get Chi back on the map of one of the world's tallest buildings (even though this would be 2nd).

The Spire has undergone so much crap in the last decade or so. I approve of it - I've always liked the tower. There's some movement on it, and most of the caissons are actually there, drilled, and installed, but of course the building costs a lot of money. Who knows if it will ever happen, but I hope it does.

I personally think its out of place amongst the other architecture in the neighborhood. it looks out of place, too weird ultra modern swirly does not belong amidst blue glass modern highrises that are next to it.

Me too. I think it would add an extra "oomph" to the skyline. I guess that is an issue, financing it, but I do think it has potential and will eventually happen.

I understand your point. I think now that the Trump Tower has settled in, it wouldn't look too different, but that's just me.

This is the stupidest architectural criticism someone can muster in general. The Flat Iron building is out of place, the Empire State building is out of place, 860-880 Lake Shore Dr are out of place, the Eiffel Tower is out of place, the Wrigley building is out of place, etc etc etc etc.

But arguing a post modern high rise is out of place next to a bunch of other post modern high rises might be the dumbest.

Congrats.

Though US architecture firms have been doing wonderful things abroad, we've kind of been playing it safe on our home soil, architecturally speaking imo. So I like the fact that it's a grand and daring piece of architecture that gets people talking, love it or hate it. And I imagine it would almost seem surreal in person. I want it.

There has already been a company to step forward a few months ago that bought up the developer's existing debt and they're working together. I think their final proposal for how to proceed is due to city council sometime next month.
