lol @ "Detroit and Tucson."

The answers, respectively are 1) no and 2) not really.

It can be a frustrating place to grow up in if you're really into nature and the outdoors, but aren't really into sports and the urban landscape.

Oh well, Illinois River Valley, Indiana Dunes, Kettle Moraine will have to do.

Ha. Ridiculous.

No, Chicago is certainly not the worst place to live. I could have moved anywhere, and I chose to move here. That was years ago.

I could easily name a dozen worse places.

I vote for Venus. It's like 800 degrees Fahrenheit there.

Default Chicago Rocks!

The shopping, the culture, mass transit, architecture, friendly people, lakeshore drive, #1 library system in Naperville, and the best pizza I've ever had!

I thought Chicago was much nicer city than most in that area of the country.

DEFINTELY not. I have an aunt who live in Clarendon Hills, very nice place, and although i don't like an urban atmosphere, Chicago is definitely a good place to raise kids, and start a family.

I love Chicago! Even in the winter! I used to live in Kansas City metro - a wonderful area! Love to visit Chicago and have a son there in a burb in the South. Anyone who can't find a place to live that they like in the CHI region - well - that is just nuts. Sure, harsh winters . . . but one just prepares for it.

CHI is a great city! And this from a native North Carolinian - who would move to CHI!!!

Well, other than San Diego, EVERY state/area has harsh weather in one form or another, sometimes the seasons are simply reversed.
