I will miss that they were made in Chicago and employed many people over decades and were around when I was a kid. They were my favorite chips of all time and the first chips I ever ate.

Frito Lay was just an outside company at the time that barely had any market share.

What I will miss the most is the simple ingredients without the MSG and other crap.

Regular Jay's Chips:
Potatoes
Corn Oil
Salt

That is all.

Are the brands being discontinued?

I never cared much for regular ol' potato chips but I definitely like the Krunchers brand. I figured Snyder's would keep making them; otherwise why buy the brand? Obviously it wasn't for the production facilities.

They had an interesting documentary on chicago food on channel 11 the other day--the original name of the chips was "Japs" (which was the guy's real name). Once WWII came out...name change.

I'm a big fan of the O-ke-Doke popcorn. Hot cheese. Yeah. I said it. Hot cheese flavor.

I'm right there with you CBC.

I grew up right down the street from Jay's (the Grove Heights 'hood) and will always remember the trucks full of potatoes lining Cottage Grove. Also, they used to have school groups in for tours and would give out goodie bags with different bags of chips and popcorn along with stickers and a Jay's pencil (I think I still have one). I still visit the neighborhood frequently (my mom still lives there) and it won't be the same without the occasional cooked-potato chip smell.

Wait, what is happening to Jay's chips?

So, I totally did not know this was a Chicago thing. I had a serious craving for Kruncher's chips my first week in Denver and I could not figure out why I couldn't! find them anywhere!

Major sadness!!! I grew up eating Jay's and I am really bummed because I am moving back to Chicago next year and it was one of the things I was looking forward to....I am going to go cry now.
