I am a 28 year old single professional moving to Chicago in the spring. I have found all of the posts about moving very helpful. Thank you for that. I am curios about meeting new people in Chicago since I am up and moving by myself without knowing anyone. I am looking for ways to meet people such as sports teams, social groups, etc. I am very outgoing and not shy about approaching people. I am hoping meeting new people will not be as hard as living in central IL. Thanks in advance for your opinions/advice.

Here are a few:

Also, just going to a bar is an easy way to meet people. I went to karakoe in Andersonville and came back with about 6 new friends :-)

Thank you for your suggestions. Is is it safe to visit a bar by yourself?

Of course it depends on the neighborhood, but generally yes, especially in areas like Lincoln Park and Lakeview. Using common sense, you'll be absolutely fine.

Could you reccommend any bars in particular a person who really doesn't know anyone could visit?

I am a 25 straight male living in Lakeview right now and would like to get to know some more people. One thing I always like doing was Karaoke (even though I'm not so great ) it is always a fun time and easy to start conversations with others ("Hey great song choice" "Who sang that song again?")...any really fun Karaoke bars in these neighborhoods?

Cubby Bear has live band karaoke every Wednesday. I was supposed to go when my friend was in town but I ended up sick that night. I've seen it in nashville, and it's really fun (i myself don't have the guts to go sing at karaoke, don't care how drunk I am )

You guys should check out the meetups for Chicago on meetup.com. They often have different people meeting up at bars and doing different things throughout the city.

If you live in Lakeview, you've got a corner bar somewhere near you. Go there a few times, especially during the week. People are generally more open about striking up a conversation at these types of bars vs the Clark/Lincoln bars.
