It's cool. We are by no means concerned about the demographics of the neighborhood, but I would prefer to live around other working professionals. By "cool vibe" I mean living within walking distance of shops and restaurants. We like cafes and bars so that would be great, also. My husband is working next to a merging point for all lines so that won't make much of a difference. The reason why I brought up South Shore is because there are fairly large apartments there for a good price. We would like at least a 2 Bedroom and want to pay around $1,700 a month. This may be unrealistic in some neighborhoods.

I lived in many different neighborhoods in Atlanta. Midtown was my favorite with Dunwoody being a close second. If public transportation was better I would have tried to get back down there, but the traffic makes life miserable.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I'll hop on zillow and see if I have any luck.

There are nice parts of South Shore, but that's not the first place that comes to mind when I think of a "cool vibe" with restaurants and shops within walking distance around, unfortunately. In all honesty, I'd look at the Ukrainian Village/East Village/Noble Square (almost Wicker Park) area for that around Division Street or Chicago Ave (Division Street is better though). I am pretty sure you could find a 2 bedroom for around or under $1700/month there. The closer to Damen Avenue, the better IMO.
