After 3 years here, I had a moment of realization of how much has changed in Chicago during that brief amount of time. We've had several new towers spring up in Streeterville/Lakeshore East, a new riverfront tower (One Eleven), and now have THREE new towers springing up at the confluence of the river. Add to that the ongoing developments and construction of The 606, Maggie Daley Park, the skate park in Grant Park, The Riverwalk expansion, Lucas Museum, Northerly Island, SEVERAL new Intelligentsia openings (had to add that as I am a coffee fanatic), development along Chicago Ave, the west loop, Logan Square, the Block 37 redevelopment...the list goes on. I can't wait to see how different the city looks in another 3 years. There's not point to this thread. Just had to share my moment of excitement.

Yeah, and the office market is really picking up with two new towers underway and increasing occupancies.

CBD Office Market Thrives in 3Q - Daily News Article - GlobeSt.com

This tidbit from the article was interesting.

"MBRE expects the vacancy rate to continue declining. Furthermore, as long as the market does not receive any major shocks, the healthy trend should continue at least until 2017, when developers will deliver Chicago’s newest trophy towers at 444 W. Lake St. and 150 N. Riverside in the West Loop.
And over the long-term, Davidson remains quite confident that a growing array of users will absorb space as it opens. “If you look at the nation’s demographic trends, you will see that we have huge numbers of baby-boomers, about 11,000 per day, which will retire in a few years. They are going to have to be replaced with younger workers, and for the most part, those workers are not in the suburbs.”

I haven't been down there in quite a while and would be interested in the progress it's making, too. I thought it was supposed to open within the year?

My BF and I looked at One Eleven. 1 bedrooms starting at 2500, 2 bds at 4000 and 3 bds at 6500. It's an amazing building with every amenity you could ask for, but Jesus!

Maybe a little stagnation is in order, if this is what "progress" brings..

I lived in a building like One Eleven for a year when I lived in Boston. My neighbors were mostly corporate relocations and professional sports players. Basically those types of buildings are for transient rich people. They are more like an extended extended-stay hotel. One weird thing is that I was recovering from a bankruptcy and they were the only place willing to rent to me besides slummy dead beat landlord apartments. I feel like the idea was, well if this guy can pony up 4K a month we'll let him live here until he runs out of money again.

I see the old Cabrini Green area being built up. like the Target there, around 700 W Division, and also there are more high rises (albeit not very high, maybe 10 floors).. starting to be built up, plus on Orleans I think there is stuff being built up, i do see some of the low income housing still there, but Division and Orleans is surely being developed.

They are also developing the Riverwalk down by Wacker Drive.
