Hello everyone!
I am planning to move to Chicago but I would need some indications.
they have offered me 50000 $ per year, visa sponsored and insurance paid for half by the company and then the rest charged monthly on my payslip. I want to know if it is a good salary or not, considering that i have to pay rent (i dont want anything special and i am keen to share an apartment) and transports?
please help me!
Valentina

You could easily live on that salary. Many, many Chicagoans do it on far less. Even without a room-mate, you could live in a nice neighborhood.

You'll be fine with that income. It's not huge, but it's certainly quite livable.

You won't starve, but there is no way to know if it is a good salary without knowing the position. Rent should not run more than $1K/mo. (depending on roommate status and location). Health insurance? Who knows, but likely less than $150/mo. Transport should run $100/mo unless you want a car. If you need/want a car you are looking at around $500/mo depending on how much you drive. Taxes will come to about $10K/yr (state, federal, & FICA).

Chicago is relatively inexpensive for a large city. That salary should be fine. You won't be rich though.

Decent wage for a single person in Chicago. You will live like neither a king nor a serf (as long as you live responsibly).

She specifically said she's paying the rent.

You will be fine. The biggest chunk of your pay will go to rent and utilities which depends on where and how big of a place you rent or if you can tolerate a room mate. Probably $1-1.5k a month for an apartment with a roommate you can get down to <$750 plus you save on utilities (electric, gas/heat. water, internet/phone/cable TV). Food depending on what you eat, where you shop, how often you eat out, will also eat up anywhere from $4-8k. Car I'd do without as it is a big hindrance in the city.
