Hi all,

Moved from Baltimore where car insurance is extremely high. I was paying $400 a year for non owners car insurance there and was quoted for $820 in Chicago. That does not sound right to me. I have nothing on my record.

Does anyone have any insights? Thanks!!!

BTW love living in Chicago so much better than sh*thole Baltimore

what is non-owners car insurance? I'm paying like $650 every 6 months. and that is only cuz I got sideswiped last year on the expressway and had to file a claim. I used to pay around $400 every 6 months.

btw, that's for full coverage with collision and comprehensive.

I have NEVER heard of anyone paying $400 a year for car insurance. that's insanely cheap.

why would you carry this insurance if you don't own a vehicle? any vehicle you would drive that is insured, usually covers any driver; sometimes there are excluded drivers, but I have never known one!

If you live in the city and don't drive a bunch you should check out Metromile. You pay by the mile and it's a lot cheaper if you don't drive much

Are you talking about uninsured motorists coverage? I don't quite understand what you mean from the title, if you are a non owner of a vehicle why would you be paying vehicle insurance?

Not sure how nobody knows what the OP is talking about. I own a car so no need for non owners, but $820 sounds high, that's about what I pay for full coverage on a 2016 BMW X5

Clearly it doesn't make sense to most of us, so do explain, as the OP seems unwilling to....

Non owners essentially covers a person who doesn't own a car, but may drive someone else's car.

If you borrowed my car and hit another car, your non owners would cover your liability.

^ So that begs the question - does the OP plan on driving someone else's car a lot? If not, then I don't 100% understand (maybe a little, but not fully). If you rent a car with a credit card, a lot of credit cards with cover a certain amount of insurance - you can pick up extra insurance for a daily fee through the rental company too for anything a credit card doesn't cover. Car sharing services like ZipCar also can include insurance coverage.
