or this one...

Let's be honest, if this kid didn't lose a shootout with the cops, he was going to be another statistic in the Chicago gangs murder files.

Let's be honest. You started this thread under a false premise and have yet to show us where the Trib made him sound like "just the typical teen horsing around with his buddies"
In fact, you probably got that flattering neck tattoo picture of him from the Trib. That's where I saw it first.

I hate street gangs and the stupid thug culture surrounding them, and I'm certain that it impacts me more where I live than in whatever suburban enclave you're chiming in from, but I don't advocate executing people in the street for being criminals. This isn't Saudi Arabia. Feel free to continue cheering for police brutality and abuse of power, bro. The story behind this shooting stinks like week old fish.

You know, it's possible to support the efforts of police, and at the same time, oppose unjustified police shootings and abuse. It's really not an either/or situation.

How about this: If you are running from the police (especially at night) in a high crime neighborhood, and/or you make any gesture in the slightest that you have a gun, you can expect to get shot.

Zero sympathy from me.

He was only running so that he could get to the library in time to finish all of his homework before volunteering at his local church.

You think people should be shot simply for running from the cops? That is utter insanity.

Yes, I think if you are running from the police (especially at night in a high crime neighborhood) you can expect some probability of getting shot. Better the thug than the officer.

The Trib, along with most of the mainstream media, has a very liberal slant. Right now, "bad [white] cop v. good [black] kid" is a big story, particularly among the affluent prone to white guilt in varying degrees. So whenever a black teenager is shot by a white police officer, the media is going to be all over it. It moves papers. This is why you see articles written in this way.

I'd actually be cool with it if we were more integrated as a society. Because then, it would be easy for the monied class to understand the real social problems that are going on here, versus being isolated from it in cushy suburbs with no crime. But as it sits, it's easy to prey on the guilt of the ignorant, which negatively impacts the situation.
