Yes, growing up a lot of my friends went to Door County. It's about as far as you can comfortably go driving without losing a day to travel. I'd argue there's more to see and do in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but that is a full day's drive away.

Yes. Started visiting Door County when I was a young girl with my Family. I think many Chicagoans vacation there. I have not been there for a while but I'd gladly go back.

Whereas Door County did not feel like the people were from any particular place. But I was a kid and maybe didn't notice it. However, I'm guessing there are not traffic jams of Chicagoans going to and from Door County during the summer? Of course, the greater distance is probably the main reason.

Yeah, it's 4 hours from Chicago to Door County. An hour from Boston to Cape Cod and an hour or two from NYC to the Hamptons. So Chicago to Door County is basically the distance from NYC to Cape Cod.

IL license plates and slight traffic increase
That's the real barometer as an adult if you spend time in an area of WI frequented by the Chicago crowd in summer. As a kid you would not have noticed it
In Vilas/Oneida counties of northern WI it's also very noticeable in summer.
