What is the best apt search / listing site for Chicago? I feel like every City has one. Im looking to move from NYC to Chicago and here streeteasy is the go to site in NYC.

Some quick googling seemed to indicate the following were good for Chicago? Any preferences out there?

RentCafe
HotPad
Zillow
Others?

Would be looking to rent 2bd 2bath. Apt or condo is fine.

Craigslist, the Chicago Reader, Domu, Padmapper are probably the dominant four.

Rad Pad, Hot Pads, PadMapper, and Domu are all pretty good in my experience.

I just moved back to Chicago a week ago. Decide what areas you want to live in, then take the time to go to those neighborhoods, walk around with pen and paper or cell phone in hand, and look for phone numbers or for rent/for sale signs on buildings. That is traditionally how it's been done here and in my opinion, the best way to do it. It's how I found my apartment after trying to find places on line and wait for agents to call me back, which some times took a couple of days. I think it's better than going on line. There are thousands upon thousands of buildings here. I doubt they all advertise online.

I would plan a trip here to look for places on foot if I were you--or at least include that as a part of your search.

I found this to be the case when looking on Craiglist. I was pulling up too many of the same places by the same PMG's on there.

This is true in a general sense, but if you have a good nose or bull****, it can still be useful. But, yeah, if you aren't good at parsing the spam it loses some of its value. But the last place I rented, I found through Craigslist.
