Hello Forum,

I recently enrolled my 11 y/o daughter into the Chicago Park District Summer Camp (Lake Shore Park location) - Day Camp program for 6 to 12 year olds. My fear is that she will be the only 11 year old in the group (out of ~100). She has done Chase Park day camp in years past and we decided to switch to try something new this year.

Please provide any specific feedback on Lake Shore Park (or other recommended summer camps part of Chicago Park District program) for older kids. I'm hoping there are some parents out there who have their older child at this location.
Lincoln Park was out because it's not really convenient of a location.

Thank you,

My Chicago day camp experience is from summer of 1993, so its relevance is questionable, but...

I went to Rogers Park Day Camp. It was "just OK" from today's perspective, but not too shabby as a kid. The camp used Rogers Elementary School and the namesake park as its home base. Most days were at camp, consisting of sports games, free play, Super Soaker fights (wow, that was nostalgic! ), relay races, and various theme days. There were 5 or 6 field trips, half of which included swimming; the camp itself didn't have a pool. Counselors were power-crazy, but adult staff members were great.

Other kids were decent. I didn't make lasting friendships, but most kids were at least polite to me. Lunches were provided by the park district; I liked the food back then (cheap sandwiches and bug juice), but would probably not like it now.

I'd imagine the camp being fairly similar today, minus the Super Soaker fights. Because cell phones .

Thanks, yeah the basics are still there today. I called and spoke with Lake Shore Park and they say there are at least 18-20, 11-12 y/o signed up, so I'm hoping that she'll like it.
