Hey I'm thinking of possibly relocating to Chicago next year. I plan on visiting this summer. What are the safe neighborhoods to live/visit besides downtown? I hear alot about the south and west sides being dangerous is it really that bad ?Basically what are the coolest neighborhoods in Chicago that are somewhat safe ? Thanks

All of the places in Chicago that are of any interest to tourists (ie Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, etc) are safe.

I think it's easier to list the unsafe areas. Avoid any area with a lot of blue dots

My experience is the safest areas in the city are bordering the north/north-west city border: Edison Park, Norwood Park, Forest Glen. To go inland a bit form that even North Park and Lincoln Square appear to be very good areas.

There are a lot of safe neighborhoods. You should probably add more details like what you're looking for in a neighborhood, where you work, how long of a commute you're willing to take, and your budget.

There aren't any safety issues after that either.

Most of the north side is safe. The west side and south sides have many unsafe areas. There are safe areas in the south and west side too if you know where you are going. I don't see any reason for visitors to go to those areas though so you are better off visiting the north or northwest areas of the city. If you find you want to move to an area on the south side or west side I would come back here and ask more questions about the area.
