I am a college student looking for an apartment for this fall with a few friends, and have found a building we like, The Automatic Lofts. The address is 410 S Clinton, just a block north of UIC. It is a very short walk from the UIC-Halsted stop. I've only lived in the South Loop for a year, but am not too familiar with the area that is west on the Blue Line. Was wondering if this is a safe neighborhood?

It's your first post, so welcome!

While no Chicago neighborhood is a Normal Rockwell utopia, the UIC-Halsted area gentrified beyond recognition over the last ten years. It's absolutely safe for your day-to-day functions, like going to work/school, running errands, walking for exercise, etc. It's even safe enough for going out at night for the most part. I would maybe not recommend walking or taking the Blue Line by yourself at night (stick with Uber and/or go in a group), but that's as much precaution as I'd recommend. The only real danger is going west of Western; that's where it gets really rough really fast.

Oh, and 410 S. Clinton isn't a block north of UIC. The main part of UIC is one station west of Clinton on the Blue Line.

I just graduated from UIC and so I obviously spent a lot of time in and around that area. I would say it's very safe. I never once ran into a situation there that made me uncomfortable.

wait a minute. the address 410 N clinton is NOT anywhere near the UIC blue line spot. that'd put u about 2 blocks north of the green/pink line clinton stop. that's a nice area btw.

That area is safe. I never felt threatened when I was at UIC east campus. The automatic lofts are actually on Morgan not Clinton. It opened when I was at UIC but I had already moved to the west campus. Remember to use the right entrance/exit. It's a long platform.
