For safety reasons, i wouldn't care if they removed these statues. a bunch of politically obsessed college aged kids are had a hissy fit in Virginia over a statue.. do you want that to happen in your city? a bunch of alt right kids and wannabe commies bused in from the suburbs and cause drama in the streets? Baltimore pulled a smart move, removing statues over night when the kids were in bed.
Statue is not being removed, non issue. Repeat statue is NOT being removed. You can now relax.

Chicago's looney mayor is unlikely to oppose it.

Doesn't matter, they'll still work themselves up to a tizzy. It seems like some people look for things to be upset about, whether real or imagined.

This is totally true. The removal of statutes is the one weapon in the arsenal to deflect the mess over Charlottsville, and the one thing that conservatives are using to carry on the agenda. Although I do not agree with Mr. Trump, I personally am not for removing any statute that portrays history in an accurate light, since it is almost like the Taliban erasing their past by bulldozing Afgani monuments. The statutes are a part of our fabric. and should not be a part of a some political chess game, period.

The simple fact is very few historical figures could measure up to the moral standards of today. Even abolitionists like President Lincoln didn't even fathom considering African Americans as equal to Whites. Also as Trump pointed out, most of our founding fathers were slave holders. So are we going to condemn all historical figures as evil and remove all statues and other honors?

It's also one major pointless diversion preventing us from focusing on the real problems. We have seen 423 people shot and killed in the City this year. Another 2,014 have been shot and wounded. We are in the middle of the biggest fiscal crisis the state and City have experienced in our lifetime. And we're focusing on removing statues. Bleeping ridiculous.

Also this isn't the first time Neonazis or the KKK have had a rally. Usually they have their rally with peaceful counter protesters expressing their disgust with them then they go back to their trailers or throwing chairs on the Jerry Springer show.

Instead Antifa, BLM, and other groups turned this into a violent clash that gave them international exposure and blew everything out of proportion.
