Hi Guys,

First, let me say that your advice and help is greatly appreciated. Me and my husband, both 30 years old and no kids, just starting our careers after grad school, are moving to Chicago and need advice regarding where to look for a place.

For now, we are looking for a two bedroom two baths, around 2000~2500 a month. We like to have urban experience and love to live in the city, but not as crowded as downtown, just a nice, walkable neighborhood. We love to eat good food from all different ethnicities, to be able to walk places(even though we both have cars), love cultural events and have two cats. I have searched the forum but people asking where mostly singles looking for great nightlife around them, so I've created this new thread. Oh, and have in mind that even though we are 30, we are both still very young at heart and would love all kinds of fun activities

Any insight would be a great help, thank you.

I think Southport would be a nice place to live with a significant other. It's very yuppy but with an exceptional number of attractions - Music Box and Music Box Lounge, Mercury Theater, Amazon Bookstore, boutique shops as well as upper mid-tier retail chains, some romantic pubs (i.e. Coda da Vin, Ella Elli) along with those unique to the neighborhood (i.e. Southport Lanes, Schubas), even a few dives (Langes, Toons, plus my favorite Ten Cats Lounge), and a ton of coffee shops and empanada bakeries. And don't forget Tango Sur - hell of a bang for your buck there. Public transportation is top notch, you're an easy walk from Wrigleyville, Boystown, with the lake/Addison Harbor/golf course/tennis courts just a tad more east. For someone new to the city, it's an easy way of getting acclimated for a few years before trying out other neighborhoods, if that's the route you want to take.

Thank you so much for suggestions TBideon, seems like a place I'd love.

Southport will be great then. The Brown line will take you to Lincoln Square in a few stops.

Old Town near the Sedgwick stop. Great access to the new amenities on North near 94, Wells St. is loaded with bars and restaraunts, and for a bit more diversity in the way of food and culture, head west on North into Wicker Park or northwest a few blocks west of Oz Park/on Armitage.

Highly Reccomend that you walk around the neighborhoods north of North, and south of Armitage. Absolutely beautiful, and you can walk to the beach and all that Lincoln Park has to offer (including Saturday farmers markets).

Lincoln Square itself is also very nice. I live between Lincoln Square and Andersonville and am always walking over to one or the other for restaurants and shopping.
