That doesn’t shock me at all. The Bulls became a global brand in the 1990s and, even putting that aside, the NBA has much more of an international fan base compared to the other American sports leagues. (That’s why if I were a billionaire, I’d want to buy an NBA team over any other type of franchise. A critical mass of people outside of the United States, particularly in China and other parts of Asia, are legitimately basketball fans without any clue about baseball or football.)
White Sox caps are also surprisingly popular among people not only across the country, but also around the world. A lot of this can be owed to the hip hop culture of the 90's where many rappers wore caps with the current Sox logo on them. I personally have definitely seen Sox gear worn quite a bit in other parts of the country, mostly hats.
I'd actually say in terms of branding/logos popularity for Chicago sports teams (for people not from Chicago), it would be
1)Bulls
2)Cubs
3)White Sox
4)Blackhawks (though this only became popular around 2013 or so)
5)Bears (Though this will change when we win the Super Bowl in 2020)
6)Fire (and this team shall remain at number 6 for quite some time)

I see a lot of people equal selling sport team logos= being a fan. Not true at all. I seen people in Sweden growing up wearing bulls merchendise and whitesox. But where they actual fans. No. Most people didn't know what it was other than looking cool and American.

The answer is the Bears hands down. Baseball is split, the Bulls have been bad for a quarter century now and the Blackhawks come close to most popular when they are good, but now they are not.

The Bulls/Sox/Blackhawks ebb and flow with their success. The Blackhawks were #3 when they were winning championships. Now that they suck, they have plummeted, and they'll keep plummeting to a clear #5 once the Stanley Cup team is totally gone, like Toews and Kane.
The Sox had a nice run of mostly good teams from 1990s through 2006. During that time, they were a solid #4, and even moved up to #3 once the Bulls broke up. But in the last 10 years or so, they have probably been 4/5. They are now rising, and I'd probably say they are either 3 or 4 right now, battling with the rapidly sinking Blackhawks for 3rd place.
Let's face it, the Bulls have been mostly terrible since Jordan. They had a few good years under Thibs with Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler, but when the Bulls suck, NOBODY cares. The NBA is so full of super teams not in Chicago that they will be irrelevant for a long, long time.
Thinking that through more, right at this given moment, 1) Bears, 2) Cubs, 3/4) Sox/Blackhawks tie, 5) Bulls, 6) Fire

Yes the Cubs get way more attention when it comes to baseball, but this idea that "The Sox have no fans because of the Cubs" is ridiculous and clearly based on nothing but a bunch of lies and hearsay. The White Sox pack their stadium when the team is at least enjoyable and entertaining to watch, and sell outs happen frequently when they win. There are tons of teams in worse positions in terms of attendance/ fanship over the White Sox. New Comiskey is not a tourist attraction like the park on the northside is. The south side fans are real, Chicago roots people who care about baseball, while the northside is just one big drinking and dating fest with a bunch of tourists and suburban/out of state transplants.

Yes, and a *huge* part of why the Cubs have so many fans (despite let's be real, being a terrible team for a long time) is because of WGN flaunting them around due to the Trib owning the team. It didn't just happen naturally, or because people like the north side better than the south side (yes, Wrigleyville used to be a pretty drab and sketchy place a while back too). And it certainly didn't happen because the Cubs play better baseball than the White Sox. The Braves and Cubs both had the gift of being broadcasted across the nation via TBS and WGN respectively, hence their large fanbases today.
You can try to tell me Wrigley field is not a tourist attraction, but you're not convincing anyone. It's just as much a Chicago ( and really, a baseball in general) tourist attraction as Navy Pier, the Sears Tower, and Michigan Avenue is. If you seriously think everyone at Cubs games are true fans who've been with the team since birth, you're just fooling yourself. The Cubs are also gifted because their original ballpark wasn't razed to the ground like Comiskey Park was. Same exact deal with Fenway park; it's a tourist attraction, in many ways more than just a place where baseball is played, so of course you'll see more "fans" there.
The Sox fill up their stadium when they win. Look at '06 and '07 after we won in 2005 (if you even knew that, because the White Sox are constantly glossed over by both Chicago and national sports media). Sox park was packed regularly. The Sox have poor attendance now only because the team hasn't been competitive since 2008. Naturally, that will cause a lack of attendance. On top of that, Sox park is not a tourist attraction like Wrigley, and the Sox aren't praised for sucking like the Cubs are. In fact, the new Sox park, while much better than it was in the 90's, is still seen by many to be one of the most bland and uninspiring ballparks in the entire MLB. Still though, there are many teams with worse attendance even when they're killing it in the regular season, and who have much better ballparks.
All you need to do is see the ridiculous amount of bandwagonning that took place in 2016 when the Cubs made a run and won the World Series. Yes, the Sox had some bandwagonners in 05, but the Cubs had about 1000 times more people who just jumped aboard the train in September/October of '16. The Cubs, like the Red Sox, Yankees, Patriots, and Dodgers, are easily one of the most bandwagon/ fair weather fanship teams in all of pro sports. Sox fans meanwhile stick with the team no matter what, despite the Cubs getting literally all of the love in town.

I was referring to logos and popularity among people outside of Chicago, not actual fanship within the city. The Bears logo is definitely not more well known to outsiders than the Bulls logo, that's ridiculous. While the 90's and the Jordan era was a long time ago now, it's still one of the, if not the single most influential period in NBA history, as well as sports history period. The Bears are not as influential historically compared to other NFL teams, excluding 1985. Even so, that popularity quickly evaporated, especially since the Patriots have been dominating ever since they got Brady.
I agree the Blackhawks aren't associated as much with the city (outside of 2010-2015), but that's only because hockey in general is still not huge in the U.S., especially compared to Football and Basketball.
The Sox as a team aren't given much, if any love on the local and national level. However, their logo is still very popular across the country. Sometimes it really doesn't matter how a team is doing; if their logo is popular/attractive to people, they'll buy merchandise for that team.
In other words... there are a lot more Cubs fans than Sox fans.
It's hilarious how you dismiss the Cubs' broader fan base as merely a product of marketing, as if marketing isn't the fundamental means of broadening a franchise's fan base. You know why Wrigley Field is a tourist attraction? BECAUSE THEY HAVE FANS WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO ATTEND GAMES. Like, duh?
Sox fans don't show up WHEN they win, they show up AFTER they win -- sometimes, for a while anyway. The Sox didn't even crack the attendance top HALF in 2005. They did in 2006 and 2007, and then sank right back into obscurity where they've remained to this day even during some pretty competitive seasons. If Sox Fans don't pay attention to the Sox, why should anyone else?
Meanwhile Cubs fans didn't wait until AFTER they won it all to finally show their support, they've been doing it consistently for decades. They were attending games and watching them on TV and buying up their merchandise through an awful lot of really thin times. Their average attendance ranking in the previous 10 years was 7th out of 30. Their lowest in that 10-year-span? 12th, in a season where they lost 96 games. So don't give me this "2016 bandwagon" crap. 2016 was the payoff, not the launching point.
