Hiya guys, hoping to get some help here.

I am planning to flying with my dog into ORD sometime between August and October of this year. The airline will not let me take my dog unless ORD is at 85 degrees or below when we land (he must be in cargo). I know nothing about Chicago weather, so what I need to know is between these month, when would it be safe to book this flight?

When does it start to get below 85 degrees?

I would like to take this flight asap, but dont want to risk them not allowing my dog.

Thanks in advance!!

More like September. In Chicago, anything over 90 degrees is usually referred to by weathermen and women as a "heat wave". Temperatures don't top off that often.

Wait until Oct.
September warm weather can top 85 randomly through the month.

October is your best bet, and the later in the month, the better. Although it's not typical, we've had a few Octobers in recent years where it got into the mid-80s during the first week or so.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Last September well over 1/3 of the days in September reached a high of 85. There were even 5 days in the 90's during September.

I never really hear the news talking about a heatwave unless it's 93 or more for 3-4 days+.

Random 90 degree days aren't going to get much notice except for the "it's gonna be a warm one out there today, blah blah".

The average in September is around 75-83 degrees, so 85 isn't anything surprising.

I'd definitely go with October. Last year there were only 4 days above 85 in Chicago. While it was up near 80 during the last few weeks of October, it didn't break 85 after around the first 10 days of the month.

I'd wait till October, Like another poster said, September has been known to have some pretty warm days over 85. Are you just coming for a vacation or are you moving here?

can't you just fly in evening/early am when it's not that hot?

I'm curious what type of dog you have. some airlines have imposed additional restrictions on flying certain breeds of dogs in cargo due to the heat risks. dogs like English bull dogs, for example, have pushed in faces that makes it hard for them to breath and more likely to suffer heat stroke. I wouldn't fly a bulldog in cargo in 80 degree weather

I'd check w/ the airline and ask about a back up plan in case you end up flying out on a day that is too hot (will they reschedule for you? maybe fly you out at night? if the heat is a real concern, try getting an early morning or late night flight as opposed to mid day)
