I am moving to Chicago in August and living in the West Ukrainian Village. I will be working in the near West Side very close to the FBI building on Roosevelt -- for an ambulance service. I have a car so since I will likely get out of work late at night plan to drive. So I can drive down Western, Damen or over to Ashland to drive south to Roosevelt -- any route safer than the other? Will it be okay for me to drive alone (woman in my early 20s)? Thanks!

I live in Tri-Taylor, which is the neighborhood that borders the FBI building to its north.

The safest and fastest route by car to the FBI area, would be to travel south on Ashland to Ogden. These streets meet near Madison. Turn right on Ogden. You will travel SW on Ogden to Damen. Turn left on Damen. This is near Stroger Hosp. 3 blocks south on Damen, then make a right turn onto Roosevelt. The FBI building will be on your left.

This is a quick route by using Ogden, and you avoid somewhat sketchy areas on both Western and Damen between Grand Ave. and the Eisenhower Expwy. (I-290)

Welcome to Chicago.

If you are a new driver in Chicago remember that if a short officer or a female officer stops you, do not argue. You are going to get a ticket so save your breath.

You have 90 days to get a local driver's license, IL tags and a city sticker. Use your time wisely.

Pack your patience and pocket book, as you'll need both there in Chicago! Nashville, Tennessee, is growing like crazy if you decide you don't like Chicago. It'll be the next booming City.
