It is a tragedy that I will likely not see the abandonment of the obsession with garbage steel-and-concrete structures in my lifetime.

I understand that we are confined to the materials of our time period. Whatever they want to do with shape, it is no distraction from the prison of banality that concrete and steel represent.

Someday when we figure out how to make structures renewable and/or environmentally neutral people like you will be enraged they don't build them with concrete and steel like the "good ole days". As if building with solid stone construction these days makes any sense in the present.

these bird killing glass boxes aren't really all that great though to be honest, and I think in the future we will shake our heads in disgust, like we do now with that hideous brutalist garbage they built long ago... Gang did the best with what she had available to her though, props are deserved. Still hate the blowthrough floor a lot though

I love brutalism... Not sure either of our opinions matters.

As someone who belongs to a class that can afford to put its money where its mouth is, I happen to own a townhome in a neighborhood that exemplifies that which I am asking to see replicated.

I do not want to live in a world where the "3rd tallest in Chicago" is a structural Rosie-the-Robot knockoff.

Take a good long look at that building. Rosie the Robot. It's so obviously a feminine build that I think whoever holds Hanna-Barbera's IP has a legitimate case in court.

As for rednecks, what an unkind thing to say. You're lower-class street trash at best.

You are responding to the wrong person. My comment, and how depressing is it that I have to clarify this for you and Tweedle-dum, is that the "environment" of our times refers to the construction materials common to our era. Right now, that is mass-produced, mass-replicated reflective panes crammed together artlessly with stucco.

This is why we see variations on form and nothing else. Same chintzy design, same indistinguishable form. In a world where the boundaries of our horizon are crushed by the imaginations of people like you, this might as well be a form of thought crime.

Finally, learn your place in this world. Between all of us discussing this Jetson monstrosity, I'm the only one who can afford to live there. Just because the internet has given you the ability to speak is no indication that either your heart or soul possess thoughts fine enough to be spoken aloud.

Haha, I made you lower yourself to personal attacks. I win.

The building is gorgeous. Your opinion isn't the final gavel hit.
Write me another paragraph.

Learn my place in the world? Huh? I'm not entitled to my own opinions? To suggest I am not smart enough to "be spoken aloud" is very much uncalled for. I never attacked you personally so not sure why you feel a need to do so to me. But hey, I'm the dumb one.

I guess I am confused on what you propose instead of current materials? Current materials are well current, because they provide many economical and ecological benefits. Concrete and steel is both strong and easy transport. Concrete in particular is light weight to transport thus an economically and environmentally smarter choice. Glass is obviously more appealing for the average person because natural light is very much appreciated over the dark small windowed high rises of the past.

What exactly are you recommending we build with instead? If you suggest we go back to the beautiful intricate stonework of some of our oldest buildings then I would love to hear how that economically, environmentally, or even functionally makes any sense at all. Sure those sort of buildings last forever. The craftsmanship is unmatched. They aren't as uniform as modern glass skyscrapers either. But those old beautiful buildings are also heavy, hard to construct, dark, not energy efficient and most important very expensive to build.

Finally. A sane person.
