“Time to start requiring childbirth licensing, conception fees or toddler escrows in order to be a parent. If love doesn’t motivate good behavior, perhaps hitting their pockets will.”

Contacted Friday, Lopez said he was serious and, if there was any possible way to legally implement parental licensing or conception fees, he would do it.

Honestly, I can’t figure out if this aldermoron is completely out of touch or if he’s so progressive he aspires to have a system that would fit right in with the communist authoritarian Chinese government. Typical Chicago Democrat thinks there’s no problem that can’t come up with a tax for.

He must be one of the alderman too stupid to get in on the corruption game.

Well, I will say, there seems to continue to be birth number explosions. I've seen it in my field the last 10 years, working in the jail system. And as a father of 3, it IS heartbreaking to me, when I screen men and women in the criminal system with numbers of children sometimes they have to try to REMEMBER! And sometimes they are not in the children's lives. And this is NOT a race issue. I've seen many things in my time. So I think children should have more classes dealing in health and self-esteem, TO START.... penalizing people with fines who have no real income to speak of is actually pointless.... but I do see and feel the concern.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Illinois welfare policies have spawned generations of families dependent on the system. I bet that changes in welfare and gun laws would clean up a lot of the mess in Chicago. Too bad it will never happen.

I agree with Chicago South Sider. There are generations utilizing welfare systems. When public housing began, it was meant to help people get back on their feet, and then move forward. Children learn values and skills first from parent(s). This is why I feel we need, if anything, more classes and programs early on to teach self-esteem, confidence, anger management, etc. THAT is why I've taught Tae Kwon Do for now 17 years. It also offers a place to belong, with goals, and positive companionship and leadership!

Well, we can't accuse him of trying to pad the voter base.

When it comes to regulating abortion they say "the government cannot regulate how women use their bodies."
When it comes to regulating births, they say "the government MUST regulate how women use their bodies!"

Double standard = corruption.

well thats an interesting proposal lol

honestly it probably would be good for society for people to have to take a class or two before having kids but there is literally no way to enforce this

China has something similar, the One Child Policy. Of course they enforce it quite differently.
