planning to move to Chicago soon... (currently in Colorado)

is it really necessary to buy "City Sticker" for my car?

Thanks!

My opinion only. If you have your own private parking spot (like, in a garage or alley), you don't really need a sticker. But if you are going to be parking on the street with regularity, or in a large parking lot/structure, you should get one, or you will likely get a ticket eventually.

If actually live in Chicago and plan on parking in public, then yes.

Unless you want to risk a $200 fine every time your car is within public view of a cop or roving revenue agent, yes it is necessary.

Yes! The fines are hefty. And don't forget to obtain a zone parking sticker if you reside in a area that's has zone parking and pay attention to the No Parking signs, especially for street cleaning!

Absolutely! There is a reason why you see so many out-of-state plates with Chicago city stickers. Pay the tax, or you'll regret it.

I've never unders or some reason it has always been the newbies or people who don't plan on staying here long that take the scofflaw approach to this. Yes, the law requires that you purchase the sticker.

I've never really understood this discussion, but it always seems to be the newbies and short termers who recommend the scofflaw approach to other new residents. The sticker is legally required i.e. not optional for those who think they shouldn't have to pay. We have one car that is kept in our private garage and isn't driven most days.

Chicago will find a way to suck that money out of you no matter what. Also be aware of the red lighting cameras everywhere. They get most people on right turn on reds and you won’t know about it for months.
