Hello everyone
Interesting situation brewing in the pilsen area. A homeless man has set up a shanty in the contested private lot off 16th and Newberry. Initially, he just built a small shanty but over the weeks has moved more and more stuff over and now it is a two bedroom sturdy living space. Residents in the area have called the homeless shelter only to be told that the man is refusing shelter services, and when the Alderman got involved, he said that the 'orders' from the superintendent were that no homeless person is to be removed from their current living situations in the city.
The whole thing is bizarre to me. He literally built a small house on someone else's private property! I'm not sure what the property owner is doing or if they even know (they're based in NY). Is there any suggestion anyone can give? The man doesn't bother anyone, but the precedent being set is a little unnerving.

The Alderman in that area is one the Socialists on the City Council. Completely moronic idea of that crew that allowing trespassing is somehow helpful to society

It's going to get really interesting when the Homeless Guy starts putting on additions and renting to other Homeless Guys. And then, when somebody gets sick from the accumulation of manure on the property, can the lot owner be sued? What's to stop this from happening in somebody's back yard?

If we're up to the alderman, nothing. The homeless deserve to live in your backyard. You owe it to them.

Well..when the weather gets freezing cold outside and the hawk starts blowing through that empty lot, you must, as you will then be considered to be a danger to yourself if you have no adequate indoor heat and insulation. You will be given shelter in a controlled environment by force, since the vagrancy laws from the 1900's are no longer being upheld, except for life and death situations now.
