Second only to Prague... and beating out Paris, Amsterdam, and Vienna.

Chicago was just voted the 2nd most beautiful city in the world

Chicago has the most handsome collection of tall buildings, I believe.

Rep for you Andrew. Thanks for the positive news. No surprise here, I have been to Paris, Amsterdam and Vienna and I agree. Paris was, to me, a let down- people sleeping on the streets on mattresses, average areas along with charming ones. Chicagoans just don't know what they have.

This used to be an easy argument to make but it gets more difficult to defend each passing year. Chicago architecture has taken quite the nosedive in the last 25 years, especially so in the last 5. Signature towers aren't really a goal by developers here any longer. Most these days are just blue-boxes and materials like limestone, terracotta, granite, brass, copper etc. have disappeared.

I think St. Regis and Aqua are nice, interesting additions among the new skyscrapers. I think the 80s and 90s were the nadir in terms of what I feel are ugly skyscrapers aside from the throwback NBC Tower and the interesting crowns of the Crain Communications Building and Two Prudential.

I think the riverfront was what really improved the most with cleaner waters, the Riverwalk and some parks. The narrowness and the many bridges make for a pretty spectacular urban river canyon. What I'd like to see some work on is LSD becoming more of a boulevard than an expressway, and of course, fixing up parts of the West and South sides. I also really like the proposals to put a freeway cap park over the Kennedy expressway which has way too many on and off ramps.

It lost to Prague, so in this poll it was less beautiful than Prague.

The problem with NY's has always been that there are just so many skyscrapers, and many are really old looking. Now it's just a jumble-mess of a collection. There is a certain charm to it, but not what many would consider "beautiful" (speaking of skylines only).

There is a certain charm/beauty to the classic NY neighborhood at the street level, with the brownstones and mid-rises in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
