I heard about this sad news, this morning! Sadly this sounds exactly like the Abbey Pub fire, where a building next door had a fire, and it spread over to the building that housed a bar/restaurant later. It's so sad that Twisted Hippo caught on fire, but I hope Twisted Hippo is able to move to a new space. Maybe they could consider moving to the former Vosnos restaurant/diner space at Montrose and Elston, which was torn down sometime in the last few years and still sits vacant? Or the former Green Dolphin Street space, at Ashland and Webster? And btw Finch once considered opening a brewpub in that space, before they briefly opened a brewpub(in the Breakroom and Twisted Hippo space) for less than a year on Montrose. Wherever Twisted Hippo moves to, I wish them the best of luck.

And the Abbey Pub story is sad, too. After that fire per what I remember hearing on a Bar Rescue: Back to the Bar episode, the owner of Abbey Pub says they tried to make an insurance claim after that fire, that got denied. Right after that occurred they got kicked out, and some new owner for whatever stupid reason tried to open a bar under the Abbey Pub name. Never mind to me if it isn't that same family operating that successor bar, or that the original family came to an agreement with that new owner, that newer person attempting to open a bar there should have used a different name than Abbey Pub. I remember seeing a sign posted in the old Abbey Pub space that said a bar with that same name was eventually going to open, but I'll guess the pandemic put a stop to the plans for such a new bar to open. I wish the Looney family, could've had a chance to reopen Abbey Pub myself.

Yes, heard about this - and the Ultimate Ninja Gym next door. The GoFundMe list for Twisted Hippo is inspiring. They put a $100K goal and in 2 days were at $94K. Goose Island and Skeleton Key (which had to rebuild after a tornado in the past) each donated $5,000. It's cool how these breweries stick together and enjoy each other's beer.
